Are Anxiety and Panic Attacks Treatable?

Have you ever experienced sudden gasping for air even while you were relaxing and just watching television? Then an unusual but very strong feeling of light-headedness coupled with rapid pounding of heartbeat for sixty seconds made you sweat, shaky and unsteady? You might be thinking at that instant that you are already dying of heart attack.

Such incident could qualify as panic attack. It is beyond any feeling of fear. Others may be diagnosed with the illness but causes may be quite difficult to trace. Those who suffer can get confused when they do not know what is actually happening to them.

Specialists concluded that the most common symptom for panic disorder is the panic attack itself. The panic disorder is characterized by acute and rigorous episodes combined fear of losing control or dying, pounding heartbeat, chest pain, discomfort, lump in throat, choking sensation, nausea, numbness of skin, tingling sensations in joints, suffocating sensation, and feeling of oddness even with the familiar things around.

A person who experience above symptoms caused by reasonable incidents may not be panic attacks. It may be from medical ailment or illness. But if there are no reasonable causes then it is probable to be panic disorder.

More than two decades ago, physicians call the disorder as Anxiety Neurosis. It was thought to stem out from psychological conflicts of the person to subconscious upsetting nerves related to sexual nature. Today, it is considered a physical ailment with a metabolic core. It is not only regarded as emotional problem since even the emotionally healthy person can experience similar attacks. This is most frequent to individuals aging from 20-35 years of age.

Panic attacks can reach to a maximum intensity within 60 seconds or more as they begin. They lessen slowly after 30 minutes or the next several hours. Most often when the attacks occur several times, its severity can progress as to its first attack.
